"Puertas" is a story centred on 4 doors, portals to 4 cultures: Indian, Jewish, Arabic and Latin. Enhanced by unique elements, such as world instrumentation and digital projection, the dancers and musicians engage in a beautiful artistic dialogue that tells a unique story of these cultures. In a production that is as passionately traditional as modern, PUERTAS is a doorway to an unforgettable experience of Flamenco music and dance.
ABOUT THE ENSEMBLE
Rooted in the tradition of flamenco, the ensemble blends world-music and rhythms combined with an engaging visual experience of elaborate costumes and projections. With an dynamic and imaginative musical direction that blends world influences such as salsa and Indian music with ease, PUERTAS also features highly unique instrumentation (ney flute, hand pans, percussion, chitarra battente guitar). A truly international ensemble, the artists come from various reaches of the world - Israel, Canada, Spain and Italy, each bringing their unique flair and musical vision to PUERTAS in a way that is highly interactive and richly varied.
Dancer Fiona Malena first began collaborating with Musical Director Liron Man in 2012, and since then they have performed worldwide including in a series of consecutive sold-out concerts in Spain as well as in Israel. Puertas was first premiered in London, England and later toured England (New Art Exchange, Nottingham), Canada (Calgary International Flamenco Festival) and Germany (Kleines Theater Haar, Munich) to critical acclaim.
