"Deep in the Southern Spanish mountains, art transforms the forest”
A mesmerizing collaboration inspired by a journey through the deep and mysterious forests of Andalusia between internationally acclaimed flamenco virtuoso Karen Lugo, known for her splendid technique and strong personality, and celebrated Calgary dancer and Artistic Director Fiona Malena, praised for her distinctive, imaginative style and highly musical approach. Also featuring some of Spain’s outstanding performers, guitarist Victor Márquez “El Tomate” and singer Juan Debel, Arbolé integrates images of imaginative artwork imbedded directly in nature by artist Rinat Izhak.
Flamenco dancer Fiona Malena performs world-wide, including in Turkey, Canada, Germany, Israel, Spain, Ecuador, USA, Mexico and the United Kingdom. Collaborating with artists such as El Torombo, Ramón Martínez and Pedro Sierra, other noted performances include Peña de Londres (London, England) and the Alcázar palaces (Jerez de la Frontera and Seville, Spain).
Passionate and innovative, her ensemble is richly varied and powerfully percussive. With the energized fusion of world music, rhythms, and unique instrumentation such as the Hang drum, her perfomances have recently led to consecutive sold-out concerts in Spain.
